Welcome

Join The Pilates Revolution

These days it’s rare to open a newspaper or magazine without some top athlete or sports personality attributing their newly toned lean physique or their swift recover from injury or improved performance, to the Pilates Method. Tiger Woods does it, so does David Beckham and countless others, here are a few quotes:

'Now I have muscles of steel and could easily deal with giving birth.' Hugh Grant

'You have turned me into a Ferrari; my husband thanks you.' Ruby Wax, to her Pilates teacher

'I'm a Pilates person. It's great. I had a hip problem. I had a chronic back, a pinched nerve and a hip problem and it's completely solved all of it. I love it. It makes me feel like I'm taller.' Jennifer Aniston

What is Pilates?

The Pilates method was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s and has since then been refined over decades. These days much research and dissection of the exercises has been done to improve and modify the technique to make it accessible to everyone and as safe and effective as possible, no matter what level of fitness, age, injury, body shape you happen to have. Physiotherapists have started to embrace the Pilates method finding it to be the best rehab for example for chronic low back pain among many other injuries and conditions.

Joe Pilates was a true pioneer, well ahead of his time and, testament to his lifelong dedication to his technique, not a great deal has been changed and his original classical technique is still practiced today. Millions of people all over the world are practicing Pilates and experiencing the amazing benefits of this technique. These days it’s not just the world’s elite performers, dancers, sports persons who can receive top quality training, and incredible physique. The Leeds Pilates Place is somewhere where you can join this revolution and start benefiting in all areas of your life.

The Pilates method of body conditioning provides optimal strength, flexibility, energetic vitality and balanced muscular precision for everyday movement and athletic activity. It works by strengthening muscles from the inside out, giving you a strong supported back and flat stomach. This will improve your posture and overall musculature which will have a positive effect on how you move around.... from daily functional activities, such as walking, climbing stairs, carrying heavy shopping bags, to improving how you play sports, such as golf.

Pilates is known by some as ‘Intelligent exercise’ this is  because Pilates is a full body movement system which utilises full mental  engagement  and concentration to stabilise some muscle groups whilst other muscle groups move in a coordinated manner. Each exercise builds upon the correct alignment and articulation of the preceding exercises. Each class level steadily increases in challenge maintaining the stability; mobility; alignment and coordination with the breath to dramatically improve the quality, balance and grace of our movement patterns and our day to day lives. The rewards are many; practice persistence and patience were the watchwords of Joseph Pilates. Millions of people all over the world are practicing Pilates and experiencing the amazing benefits of this technique. These days it’s not just the world’s elite performers, dancers, sports persons who can receive top quality training, and incredible physique.
