Why Exercise?
Similar to a marathon, labour requires training and preparation and time to recover and recondition afterwards. Evidence from the American Association for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG) shows that people who exercise regularly throughout their pregnancy have shorter more gentle births, recover quicker and return to their pre pregnancy fitness faster. Practicing Pilates helps maintain and improve the condition of both your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Pilates will not place strain on the joints or back but will in fact strengthen the back, the stomach and the muscles around the pelvic area - allowing for an easier pregnancy, delivery and recovery. Exercises can be adapted at each stage of pregnancy to allow for gentler or more focused exercise.

The Leeds Pilates Place uses a perfectly balanced programme of Pilates to prepare your mind and body for the demands of childbirth and help you get back into shape afterwards. The studio brings together 16 years combined experience of Claire Sparrow, Inspired Exercise and Pramercise and Kath Nisbet of Kath Pilates Leeds. Claire’s and Kath’s training includes pre and post natal Pilates with Pilates Institute, Polestar Pilates, Fit to Deliver, STOTT and advanced training with APPI Physiotherapists and other leading International Pilates specialists. In addition to their Pilates training Claire has a four your old and has literally just successfully given birth to her second bundle of joy! Kath has been a birthing partner and is godmother to many!
We offer specialised pre & post natal Pilates classes at our new studio.
We welcome mums and babies (up to 8 months) to our new state-of-the-art Pilates studio opening on 1st September. Come and enjoy a Pilates class and socialise with other mums. The classes run as six consecutive weeks on a continuous rolling program, therefore you can start at any time!
No previous Pilates experience required.
